Candidate: 3rd Vice President

Wendy Labanca
I found, by accident, what a love I have for birds when I rescued a little parakeet named Buddy. While we only had Buddy for a short time, we grew to love and admire these winged wonders. A year after Buddy's passing, in 1998, I felt ready to get another parakeet for a family pet. While looking at several parakeets, I noticed a beautiful bird in another cage and found out that it was a cockatiel. Well, it was love at first site and I left there with a normal grey hen, Rosie, who started my passion for cockatiels.
I have bred a few species such as Finches, Parakeets, English Budgies and Cockatiels. I have owned various conures also. The cockatiel totally captured my heart and now my only focus is on cockatiels.
I started out breeding and supplying pet cockatiels to my local pet shops and did this for several years. I always tried to breed the best quality I could. I had heard about exhibiting and breeding towards the standard and found that it was something I was interested in doing more of. In 2003, I entered my very first cockatiel show. I placed my own banded birds on the Novice bench and I was hooked from then on!
I joined the National Cockatiel Society in 2003 and feel I have greatly benefitted from the organization in the short time I have been a member. I have met many wonderfully helpful people that have been very supportive of my goals. I wanted to be more involved with the organization. So in 2004, I became and am presently, the Rhode Island State Coordinator. Also, in 2004, I was appointed to Membership and Bands Secretary. I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with many members, assisting them in ordering bands, joining the society and helping them in whatever way I can.
I belong to several organizations such as NCS, AFA, ACS, NCBS, MACBE, RIPBC and have recently help co-found New England Cockatiel Breeders and Exhibitors (NECBE), which focuses on helping local clubs host cockatiel exhibitions.

• After quite some time of talking via e-mail, I finally had the great pleasure of meeting Wendy in person last show season. Although I have only known her a short while, she has left an indelible impression on my world of Cockatiel enthusiasm. How to describe Wendy? Here goes: W=Willing, E=Earnest, N=Nutty, Y=YES, I Can! Attitude. Before you misunderstand my use of "Nutty", let me explain. She is not certifiably insane, just simply fun to be around! She has the innate ability to make even the most mundane task exciting. Never mistake her inclination towards fun as a lack of seriousness -- she is a worker. Wendy is the Wonder Woman of the Show Circuit. She sees an empty slot or a job left undone, dons her cape and goes to task, stepping in wherever needed.
She is a people person, engaging, warm and most welcoming. Her gregarious personality allows her to be at ease in groups large and small, familiar or not. What vital characteristics for an Affiliations Chair! She easily transitions from leader to team player and back. This ties back to her willingness to help and be of service.
Wendy, I wish you success in this election. It is a pleasure to know you

While I am not as highly involved with cockatiels as most. I do have a few pairs. In 2004 when I first exhibited a cockatiel I had the pleasure of meeting Wendy for the very first time. Of all the people that I met Wendy stood out a shining star for me. When I later decided to acquire a mate for that male that I originally showed Wendy talked with me about options and eventually sold me a wonderful hen. I know that Wendy would do the 3rd VP job to the best of her ability & with pride! She will serve the society well with her spirit, dedication & kindness!

When I first met Wendy LaBanca a few years ago, she had this innate ability to make me feel very comfortable around her; and I find that an admirable quality. She jumped right in to the Membership and Bands Secretary position without a clue what to do, and has done a great job! Wendy is very focused on always learning more and more about cockatiels and has come a long way since 2004. Keeping her on the Board of Directors is a good idea!

While other novice exhibitors have been learning about how to exhibit and taking in the experience, Wendy Labanca has been working working working! She takes her role as Membership Bands very seriously and she does an AWESOME job at it. I got my bands recently in only 3 weeks! WOW!
Wendy's job seems like a very DAILY chore. I think it is hands down the hardest job at the National Cockatiel Society. It requires daily work, dealing with the public and members, and dealing with the NCS Board. How Wendy manages to do all three is beyond my comprehension.
Beyond her work experience, Wendy is a delightful person. She's always laughing and having fun whenever I see her. This POSITIVE attitude sure is nice to have around. Good luck GAL!
